Our Partners

Building Justice Through Collaboration

At Musawi, we believe that lasting change in law, policy, and practice is only possible through strategic collaboration. We work closely with national and international partners—ranging from independent human rights commissions, academic institutions and justice sector bodies—to co-create evidence-based solutions that advance equality, accountability, and access to justice.

Our partnerships are grounded in shared values of inclusion, legal empowerment, and rights-based institutional reform. Whether through technical assistance, research, training, or litigation, our collaborators are integral to every success we achieve.

Musawi’s Regional Partnerships & Coalition-Building

Musawi’s commitment to justice and equality extends beyond national borders. We actively engage in regional networks and coalitions across Asia and the Pacific to advance shared goals around legal identity, gender justice, refugee rights, and protection from torture. As a founding member, contributor, and convener within these spaces—including our leadership role in organizing the International Conference on Women’s Marriage Rights (ICWMR 2024) in Malaysia—Musawi fosters cross-border collaboration, knowledge exchange, and solidarity on some of the most pressing legal reform challenges in the region.

Through this engagement, we amplify underrepresented voices, promote context-driven legal frameworks, and help shape a regional agenda rooted in dignity, inclusion, and the rule of law.

Founding & Executive Committee Member, Asia Alliance Against Torture

The Asia Alliance against Torture (A3T) is a regional level coalition comprising 11 organizations working at the grass-root level in Asia on prevention and accountability for torture and other forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. A close examination of the situation in various countries in the region reveals similarities in the environment in which torture thrives and the systemic challenges that human rights activists, victims and communities face in seeking accountability and justice. A3T is a collaborative movement to build and connect a community of human rights stakeholders in the region to work against these systemic issues, to provide avenues for solidarity, joint advocacy and campaigning at the regional and international level, and foster the sharing of localized advocacy strategies, experiences and best practices to enable countries, organizations and individuals in the region to learn from one another. The Asia Classroom (TAC) is a flagship initiative of the Asia Alliance against Torture led by Musawi to connect youth across Asia on Human Rights.

Member, The Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network

The Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network (APRRN) was founded in 2008 and is a membership network that works collaboratively on protecting and promoting the human rights of refugees and other people on the move in need of protection—including asylum seekers, trafficked persons, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), stateless persons, migrants in vulnerable situations and returnees—in the Asia Pacific region. APRRN is an open and growing network of over 270 individuals and organizations’ in 28 countries.

Founding & Steering Committee Member, Statelessness and Dignified Citizenship Coalition – Asia Pacific (SDCC-AP)

The Statelessness and Dignified Citizenship Coalition – Asia Pacific (SDCC-AP) is a regional network committed to ending statelessness and promoting legal identity and dignified citizenship for all. As a founding member, Musawi contributes to cross-border advocacy, research, and movement-building that centers the voices of stateless and legally invisible communities. The coalition brings together grassroots organizations, legal experts, and civil society leaders across the region to challenge discriminatory legal frameworks, share best practices, and advance inclusive policies that respect the right to nationality and human dignity. Launched in 2024, SDCC-AP is rooted in the principle that no person should be stateless and every person should live with dignity.

Host & Convener: Coalition-Building on women’s access to rights in the family in Muslim jurisdictions in Asia through the International Conference on Women’s Marriage Rights

Musawi hosted and organized the International Conference on Women’s Marriage Rights (ICWMR) from September 4–6, 2024, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This landmark regional gathering brought together women leaders from judiciary, academia, civil society, human rights institutions, and government bodies across eight Asian countries—including Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Philippines, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka.

The ICWMR 2024 provided a crucial platform for comparative reflection, strategic planning, and coalition-building across the Muslim-majority and regional contexts—reinforcing Musawi’s leadership in advancing women’s rights in Muslim family law.
