Maimoona Yaqub

Maimoona Yaqub is a lawyer and historian based in Ithaca, New York, where she is currently pursuing a PhD in History at Cornell University. Her research focuses on the political and social history of family laws in post-1947 South Asia, particularly in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Previously, she earned her MA in History from Yale University as a Fulbright scholar. Alongside her academic work, Maimoona remains committed to advancing women’s marriage rights in Pakistan through her continued involvement with Musawi. Her work at Musawi involves legal research and drafting, along with policy review and reform advocacy. Together with Khadija Bokhari and Hamid Khan, she co-authored the Muslim Family Laws Bench Book, a first of its kind reference guide for Pakistan’s civil and high court judges.
